What should I register in for 2nd year?
Pre-requisites to courses you plan to take in 3rd and 4th year. If you need help figuring out what courses these might be please drop in our advising hours.
Courses that allow you to meet the Faculty of Science degree requirements.
ISCI 300 is recommended for 2nd and 3rd year Integrated Sciences students.
The ISCI course I want to register in is closed and I can't see a waitlist. How can I register in the course?
If the course status is closed that means both the course and waitlist are full. Once a space becomes available students who meet the course restrictions will be able to register. For ISCI 448, ISCI 361, and ISCI 461 a separate application is required for entrance to these courses. We will register students into these courses once that application is approved.
I am not an ISCI student and I want to register in a restricted ISCI course
If there is space in the course please contact us after 3rd year registration. If there is space in the course we will help you register.
My registration hasn't opened yet and I need to take a course. Can you save a seat for me in a course?
We are not able to save seats for students. UBC determines your registration time which can be found in Workday.
I can't register in a course
Contact the undergraduate advisor of the department offering the course. Integrated Sciences advisors can't register students into courses offered by other departments. This has to be done by the department offering the course.
A course in my Degree Proposal is either: Unavailable or there is a Time conflict What do I do? Choosing Alternate course
- Register in the alternate course
- Contact your mentor with proposed changes to your degree proposal.
- In the e-mail include:
- 1. A summary of the courses added and courses removed (Course Change Request Form)
- 2. Rationale for each change.
- 3. A new summary of your courses arranged per discipline.
Once approved you can forward the email to intsci@science.ubc.ca and we will update your degree proposal.
- In the e-mail include:
This is my final year and a discipline course is full or it conflicts with another required course.
Contact the department offering the course to gauge the likelihood of being able to take the course. If it is unlikely you will get a seat you will need to take an alternate relevant course. Please consult with your mentor and the ISCI office on alternate courses/updates to your degree proposal discipline requirement.
ISCI 448 Directed Study registration
Only Integrated Sciences students can take this course. We will register students once your ISCI 448 application (found in your degree proposal account) has been approved. The form must be signed by the supervisor and emailed to intsci@science.ubc.ca.
Waitlist - Where is the waitlist for a course?
Waitlists open once a course is full.
How do I register in KIN courses?
Please contact KIN advising for any questions related to KIN courses. Students with KIN courses likely won’t be able to register until after the registration period. Historically ISCI students aren’t registered in KIN courses until September. Workday is not allowing IS students to register in some KIN course waitlists due to lack of pre-requisite courses.
Registration is on hold
Please contact Science Advising.
Registration in the honours thesis
Most Honours ISCI students enroll in BIOL 449. For registration in the course please submit an application to the Biology program office.
Workday is not recognizing a pre-requisite course I took
Contact the undergraduate advisor of the department offering the course.
Do Faculty of Medicine courses count as Science credit?
Only the following courses in the Faculty of Medicine have science credit: all BIOC, CAPS, and PCTH courses; MEDG 410-421.
The ISCI course I want to take is full (or almost full). Can the IS office register/save a spot for me in the course?
ISCI course capacity is confined by the classroom's size. Registration times are allocated based on class standing and GPA, and it would be unfair to permit students to circumvent this rule. Students should either register on the waitlist or a backup course.
