Course Selection Requirements

In addition to the requirements listed above please see below for specific requirements regarding course selection:

Changes to approved Integrated Sciences Degree Proposals

During students' tenure in the Integrated Sciences Program, changes to their program may be necessary for various reasons, e.g. because students cannot get into some of the courses in their program, some courses are no longer offered, or their academic interests change.

Changes are possible, but they must be discussed with and approved by the Faculty Mentor. If a student makes substantial changes to their Integrated Sciences curriculum as a result of a change in interests, the Faculty Mentor may require the student to justify the proposed changes by revising the degree proposal essays.

It is important that any proposed changes to your course plan be submitted and approved in a timely manner. The courses listed in your approved degree proposal constitute your degree requirements, and the Integrated Sciences office periodically reviews students' progress in these courses throughout the term. Eligibility assessments for course registration, admission to opportunities such as Co-op and Exchange, and graduation are based on the approved courses in your degree proposal. Courses that have not been approved and added to your degree proposal cannot be assumed to satisfy your degree requirements.

Procedures for Degree Proposal Changes

Complete the course change request form and submit it to your Faculty Mentor for review and approval. Please include a rationale for each course you are proposing to add to your degree proposal. Once approved by your Faculty Mentor, the form should be submitted to the Integrated Sciences office (intsci@science.ubc.ca), which will update your degree proposal. If you do not receive a response from your Faculty Mentor, please contact the Integrated Sciences office for assistance.

Download the course change request form for a template to request Degree Proposal updates.

Contract Deadline

IMPORTANT: ALL CHANGES TO INTEGRATED SCIENCES PROGRAMS MUST BE APPROVED BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF THE LAST TERM OF A STUDENT'S INTEGRATED SCIENCES PROGRAM. If changes are made after that time, or without the approval of the mentor, students may fail to be approved for graduation.

As stated in the UBC Calendar, "Students who have met all the requirements for their specialization will be required to apply for gradation and graduate."

Be aware that the degree proposal may take months of revisions and review. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the degree proposal is approved before the start of the last term of study. Degree Proposals not submitted or still under review at this time will be rejected. Therefore it is recommended that Degree Proposals be submitted (for the first time) at least 4 months before the deadline.
