September 15, 2025
We're thrilled to introduce ourselves as this year's Peer Mentor Coordinators for the Integrated Sciences Program --Rachel Dong, Nicole Tam, and Renai Jose! We are excited for the opportunity to work with you and support you through your ISCI journey at UBC.
Meet Rachel: I’m Rachel, a 4th-year Integrated Sciences student studying pathology and environmental health. Throughout my time at UBC, I've worked as a Research Coordinator at St. Paul's Hospital and Research Assistant at Sunny Hill Health Centre. I currently serve as the President of the Science Undergraduate Society. Last year, I completed my directed studies at BCCHR and a Go Global Seminar in Iceland. I hope to pursue a career in healthcare studying environmental factors that influence disease and health outcomes.
Meet Renai: Hi, I’m Renai! I’m a 4th-year Integrated Sciences student at UBC, focusing on the role of nutrition in society and its connection to disease prevention. I serve as an executive with the Undergraduate Research Opportunities (URO) Club and as VP Internal of the Infectious Disease Outreach Club. Passionate about food and community, I’ve founded youth-led programs centered on health equity and nutrition and co-founded a non-profit organization that empowers young people to create meaningful change through service initiatives and advocacy. This passion led me to represent Canada as a finalist at the Skoll Centre’s Map the System Research Competition in Oxford. Looking ahead, I aspire to explore naturopathic medicine and inclusive healthcare, with the goal of creating safe, accessible spaces where well-being and equity remain at the forefront.
Meet Nicole: And I'm Nicole, a 4th year Integrated Sciences student studying genetics, microbiology, and pathology. Through my ISCI degree, I've been able to learn and do so many interesting things - I worked as a research assistant at BCCH through co-op, studied abroad in the UK, have worked with UBC Orientations and First Year Experience, participated in both ISCI Go Global seminars, and am currently starting my honours thesis at BC Cancer. I'm so excited to meet you all this year!
We are looking forward to meeting all of you this year during upcoming events and workshops we are planning this year. We will have office hours every week where you can chat with us and ask questions you might have about your journey in ISCI at UBC. If you need any additional support don't hesitate to reach out to us through our email - intsci.peermentors@gmail.com
