Registration FAQs for Integrated Sciences Students

During the registration period, this page is updated regularly with answers to the most commonly asked questions.

What should I register in for 2nd year?

  • Take prerequisites for the 3rd- and 4th-year courses you plan to include in your degree. If you're unsure which courses to take, drop by our advising hours.
  • Register in courses that fulfill Faculty of Science degree requirements.
  • ISCI 300 is recommended for 2nd- and 3rd-year Integrated Sciences students.

The ISCI course I want to register in is closed and I can't see a waitlist. What can I do?

If the course status is "closed," both the course and waitlist are full. Once a space becomes available, students who meet the course restrictions will be able to register. For ISCI 448, ISCI 361, and ISCI 461 , a separate application is required. We will register students once the application is approved.

I'm not in Integrated Sciences but want to register in a restricted ISCI course

If space is available after 3rd-year registration, please contact us and we will assist you with registration.

My registration hasn't opened yet. Can you save a seat for me?

Unfortunately, we cannot save seats. UBC determines your registration time, which can be found in Workday.

I can't register in a course

Contact the undergraduate advisor of the department offering the course. Integrated Sciences advisors cannot register students into courses offered by other departments.

What if a course in my Degree Proposal is unavailable or has a time conflict?

Register in an alternate course and contact your mentor with the proposed changes. Include the following in your email:

  1. A summary of courses added and removed (Course Change Request Form)
  2. Rationale for each change
  3. A new summary of your courses arranged by discipline

Once approved, forward the email to intsci@science.ubc.ca and we will update your Degree Proposal.

This is my final year and a required course is full or conflicts with another

Contact the department offering the course to determine if you can still register. If not, consult your mentor and the ISCI office to identify an alternate course and update your Degree Proposal accordingly.

ISCI 448 Directed Study registration

Only Integrated Sciences students may take this course. We will register students once the ISCI 448 application (available in your Degree Proposal account) is approved. The form must be signed by your supervisor and emailed to intsci@science.ubc.ca .

Where is the waitlist for a course?

Waitlists open once a course is full.

KIN courses

If you plan to register in a KIN course that you intend to count toward your discipline requirement—but it is either not yet listed in your Degree Proposal or listed in the wrong year—please notify the Integrated Sciences office at intsci@science.ubc.ca as we are coordinating registration with the KIN office.

For other questions about KIN courses, please contact KIN Advising directly. Please note that ISCI students are typically not registered in KIN courses until September, and Workday may prevent registration in KIN waitlists due to missing prerequisites.

Registration is on hold or blocked

Please contact Science Advising.

Registration in the Honours Thesis

Most Honours ISCI students enroll in BIOL 449 . Submit an application to the Biology program office for registration.

Workday is not recognizing a prerequisite course I took

Contact the undergraduate advisor of the department offering the course.

Do Faculty of Medicine courses count as Science credit?

Only the following Faculty of Medicine courses count as science credit: all BIOC, CAPS, and PCTH courses, and MEDG 410–421 .

The ISCI course I want is full. Can the ISCI office register or save a spot for me?

ISCI course capacity is limited by classroom size. Registration is based on class standing and GPA. We cannot override this process. Please register on the waitlist or choose a backup course.

A required course in my discipline is full or restricted. What should I do?

Register on your assigned date. Admission to the Faculty does not guarantee space in specific courses. If a course is full, register on the waitlist or choose a backup course. Consult your mentor or the ISCI office for guidance.
